S&P futures (Spuz) spike overnight, topping 4,900 for the first time ever after strong subscriber results helped lift Netflix (NFLX) shares more than 10% this morning, the first tech company to deliver big results. In the semi chip space, ASML rises overnight on strong results/orders, while TXN shares slide on a weaker outlook as Nasdaq futures surge. Tonight, we get earnings from TSLA which are down over -15% thus far in January alone. The S&P 500 index posted its 3rd straight record closing high, edging higher +0.3% in another slow methodical climb after breaking above prior record highs late last week. Industrial metals looking higher (copper prices) after China cut the amount of cash that banks must hold as reserves as hopes for more stimulus from Beijing are also supporting positive sentiment. China also tripled individual investment quotas under the cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect Scheme in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Chinese central bank said. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index fell -291 points to 36,226, the Shanghai Index jumped 49 points of 1.8% to 2,820, and the Hang Seng Index surged 545 points to 15,899. In Europe, the German DAX is up 200 points to 16,826, while the FTSE 100 rises 32 points to 7,517. In politics, Former President Trump easily won the New Hampshire GOP primary last night topping Nikki Haley. Another strong start for US markets as the momentum continues to push market limits ahead of GDP data tomorrow, PCE inflation data Friday and the FOMC policy meeting next week.
