U.S. futures are edging lower overnight for the first time this week but are still on track for massive gains with the S&P 500 on track for a weekly advance of 4.2%, the Nasdaq 5.6%. the Dow 4% and the Smallcap Russell 2000 up a whopping 7.8% this week alone! The S&P 500 (SPX) is approaching the 6,000 level for the first time ever, while the Nasdaq easily topped the 19,000 level this week, with both hitting fresh all-time highs. The combination of no surprises from the Fed (lowered rates by 25 bps as expected yesterday) and a definitive Presidential election outcome helped boost market sentiment and push major averages to new heights. The US dollar and Treasury yields have slipped in recent days, unwinding some of the gains leading up to the election results and providing a boost for Smallcaps. U.S. listed Chinese stocks (BABA, BIDU, PDD, JD, etc.) are under pressure after China, after market close, announced fresh round of fiscal support for its sputtering economy with a package that eases debt repayment strains for local governments. The declines came as stimulus measures disappointed high expectations. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index rose 118 points to 39,500, the Shanghai Index fell -18 points to 3,452, and the Hang Seng Index slid -225 points to 20,728. In Europe, the German DAX is down around -200 points to 19,165, while the FTSE 100 declines -75 points to 8,066. Crude oil, and base metals are pulling back following the underwhelming Chinese NPC press conference. Another earnings barrage overnight, with details of most results provided below.
