U.S. futures bouncing back, with the S&P looking higher by about +0.5% after sliding in the final hour of trading Monday to push it back below its key 200-day moving average of 4,235 (for SPX). The S&P 500 index ended up stumbling for a fifth straight session, its longest streak of declines since October of 2022 as an attempt to rally lost steam in the final hour, although the tech heavy Nasdaq managed to snap a four-session skid as bond yields eased, boosting growth stocks. Equities were under pressure in the early stages of trading as the 10-year Treasury yield once again played with the 5% mark, but quickly reversed course as longer-dated yields dropped after billionaire investor Bill Ackman said his Pershing Square Capital Management covered its bond short position, on the belief it was too risky to remain short bonds at current long-term rates. Stocks are getting a boost this morning as Treasury yields remain lower at 4.85% for the 10-yr, while a handful of earnings results/guidance this morning is helping boost some stocks early (GE, MMM, GM, NUE, CNC just a few). In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index gained 62 points to 31,062, the Shanghai Index rose 22 points to 2,962, and the Hang Seng Index slipped -180 points to 16,991. In Europe, the German DAX is up 25 points to 14,827, while the FTSE 100 is down slightly at 7,368. Bitcoin prices are rocketing higher this morning, up nearly 9% to $34,375 to its highest in nearly a year-and-a-half, on mounting speculation that an exchange-traded bitcoin fund is imminent (shares of COIN, MARA, MSTR, COIN all higher pre mkt).
