U.S. futures are looking higher as the rally that started from early Tuesday morning continued into Wednesday morning, getting a boost by technology and semis after ASML reported better Q3 bookings. Stocks got a big boost off lows Tuesday to finish mixed following dovish commentary from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell while shrugging off the latest flare-up in trade tensions between the U.S. and China. Fed Chair Powell said downside risks to the US jobs market have risen and rising risks to the job market justified a September interest rate cut. Despite the massive rally off Tuesday lows, stocks and bond yields still finished mostly lower after President Donald Trump said in a late day comment he had weighed retribution for China not buying US soybeans — potentially escalating the trade war with the nation. That concern did not carry over to the night as better earnings from ASML in the semi sector and more momentum related buying lifted futures. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index surged 825 points to 47,672, the Shanghai Index gained 46 points to 3,912, and the Hang Seng Index jumped 469 points to 25,910. In Europe, the German DAX is up 47 points to 24,283, while the FTSE 100 is down -51 points to 9,404. Attention turns back to bank earnings this morning with results expected from BAC, MS, PNC and others, while earnings from United Airlines and JB Hunt are also among those due later in the day. Gold futures continue to make new all-time highs on a daily basis, rising another 1.3% to $4,217 an ounce as the dollar fell against peers on growing Fed cut bets.
